WEATHER-RELATED SCHOOL CLOSURES / DELAYED STARTS

The decision to cancel school is primarily based on ensuring safety of the families and staff. To make this decision, we consider various factors and work closely with the Town of Arlington. We always prioritize safety when making this decision, as every weather event poses unique challenges. Therefore, we consider all the factors below together to make the safest and most informed decision possible.

We understand that cancelling school can be difficult for families. So, we strive to use all available data and information to make the best decision for our students, staff members, and families. We also believe in providing families with adequate time to plan for care. Therefore, we aim to announce school cancellations as early as possible, even though there's a possibility of weather patterns changing.

Factors we consider include multiple forecasts of state and regional impact of weather, timing of weather, amount and type of precipitation (snow, sleet, ice, wind, cold temps), public transportation route for staff members and families, safety and ability of staff to travel and get to work, ratio of staff to children, condition of roads in the morning and afternoon, and the status and prediction of weather conditions from 5:00 PM the night before to 6:00 AM the morning of.
